Huludao Sea Food

  Huludao City has more than 200 kilometers of coastline. Seafood is abundant in the adjacent sea area. Among them, the most famous are prawns, sea crabs, razor clam, jellyfish skins and mantis shrimps. 

  An adult prawn is about 15 centimeters long and weighs about 50 grams. The bodies of prawns are transparent, slightly cyan and crystal-like. The cooked prawns are orange-red, like carved corals. It is not only delicious, but also rich in protein. It has very high nutritional value. Huludao people like Boiled Prawns in Salt Water and Fried Prawn and Leek. 

  Sea crabs have been people’s favorite food. There are many kinds of sea crabs in Huludao coastal waters, such as bean-shaped boxer crab, ghost-head crab, swimming crab and big red claw. There are many ways to eat crabs. Crab paste is a seasoning. Cook crabs only or cook crabs with tofu. It is delicious dish. Dried crab is a high-grade seasoning for soup dishes. Fried crab paste is eaten with water and rice, which greatly increases people’s appetite. In most cases, people like to eat boiled crabs. In Huludao, wine with crab meat is the best dish. 

  Razor clam has a long shell. It is brown yellow. It looks like a pen. Dumplings made with mixed razor clam meat with the leek and tofu stewed with razor clam meat are both very delicious. Razor clam is one of the condiments of hot pot. 

  Jellyfish skins. Jellyfish gathers in the near sea of Huludao in July and August every year. They grow fast and they will be like umbrella caps in a few days. The fishermen from Huludao go to sea to catch jellyfish. Then the jellyfish are treated with alum and pressed into jellyfish skin. Jellyfish skin mixed with cold vegetables is not only nutritious, but also crisp and refreshing, which can greatly increase appetite. 

  The habits of mantis shrimps are similar to those of shrimps and crabs. They lay eggs in May every year, so April is the time when they are fat and delicious. Once April and May are over, the next season for eating mantis shrimps will be after September. The meat of mantis shrimps is is delicate, tender and nutritious, which is said to be the most delicious among sea food. It is Xiapazi in northeastern dialect but Pipixia in Beijing dialect.
