Huludao city is located in the west of Liaoning province, which is adjacent to Jinzhou in the east, meets Qinhuangdao in the west and near Liaodong Bay in the Bohai Sea in the south. It forms an economic circle around the Bohai Sea with cities such as Dalian, Yingkou, Qinhuangdao, Yantai, etc.. It is the western starting point of Liaoning coastal economic belt. It is known as "the first city outside Shanhaiguan and the back garden of Beijing", which is the hometown of Yang Liwei, China’s first astronaut. With a total area of 104,000 square kilometers and a population of 2.85 million, it has jurisdiction over one city, two counties and three districts. There are four provincial development zones and six key supporting areas in Liaoning province.
Huludao has favorable location and convenient transportation. Huludao is located at the node of the Northeast and North China economic sectors with five traffic arteries, including Beijing-Shenyang Expressway, Qinhuangdao-Shenyang High-speed Railway, Beijing-Harbin Railway, National Highway 102 and Liaoning Binhai Avenue running through the whole territory. It is 240 kilometers away from Shenyang and 420 kilometers away from Beijing, and it is exposed to the radiation of multiple national strategies such as the development and opening up in Liaoning's coastal areas, a new round of Northeast revitalization, one belt one road and the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, etc.. The coastline is 261 kilometers long, ranking the second in Liaoning province; the shoreline suitable for port is 100 kilometers, which is a national first class open port city. Huludao harbor is a natural harbor in the north that is free from silt and freezing. It was written in The General Plan of National Construction of Sun Yat-sen and Zhang Xueliang has written inscriptions for the harbor monument. Suizhong port, the youngest port in Liaoning province, is building a major sea passageway in western Liaoning by seizing the historic opportunity of China Merchants Group integrating ports in Liaoning.
Huludao has outstanding cultural advantages and profound cultural foundation. There are 227 cultural relics protection units, 13 of which are national level. In Jianchang area, the world’s earliest feathered dinosaur fossils and the world’s earliest eutherian mammals Juramaia sinensis fossils so far have been found. Shapotun cave site in Nanpiao is the first birthplace of Yangshao culture in China; Ningyuan Ancient City in Xingcheng is one of the best preserved ancient cities of Ming Dynasty in China; The Jiumenkou Great Wall is the only section of the Great Wall on water, which is the first world cultural heritage in Northeast China. The Jieshi Palace Site is one of the three major architectural relics of the Qin dynasty, which is equally famous with the Epang Palace and the Qinshihuan Mausoleum. Cao Cao once recited the eternal poems of “Come east of Jieshi Cliff, gaze out across the ocean”, and Chairman Mao also left the moving poems of “The past has been a thousand years. At that time, Cao Cao, the emperor of the state of Wei, leaded the soldiers to defeat Wuhuan, when he went eastward to Jieshi Cliff, he recited the eternal poems”. Huludao was also an ancient battlefield in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the starting place for the repatriation of millions of Japanese nationals and the main battlefield of the Tashan blocking action.
Huludao has obvious industrial characteristics and strong foundation. During the period of “the First Five-Year Plan”, two of the 156 key projects invested by the state were in Huludao (Bohai Shipyard, Yangjiazhangzi Mining Administration), where the first piece of zinc ingot, the first bag of caustic soda and the first piece of chinlon were manufactured. At present, key industries such as petrochemical, marine machinery, non-ferrous metals, energy and power, new aluminum alloy materials, etc. have been formed. There are backbone enterprises such as PetroChina Jinxi Petrochemical Company, China Metallurgical Huludao Nonferrous Metal Group Co., Ltd., Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., Suizhong Power Plant, CATIC Liming Jinhua Machine Group Co., Ltd., Hangjin Technology, Siemens Turbine Machinery, Huludao Aluminum Industry and so on.
Huludao has unique natural landscape and beautiful environment. It is an excellent tourist city, a national garden city, a national forest city and a hot spring city in China. There are 55 scenic spots, integrating “city, spring, mountain, sea and island”. Xingcheng Hot Spring has 1300 years of development history, rich in more than 10 kinds of minerals, water temperature 70℃, known as “natural holy water”. The original ecological beach stretches 60 kilometers and has 14 natural bathing beaches. Juehua Island is the largest island in Liaodong Bay of Bohai Sea, with a total area of 15 square kilometers, and the 108 bodhi trees on the island are still flourishing after thousands of years. It is a famous “northern Buddhist island” in China and has the reputation of “the most beautiful island in China”.
Huludao has diversified mineral reserves and abundant products. There are more than 50 proven mineral deposits in the city, and more than 30 kinds of mineral resources have been exploited and utilized. There are large reserves of coal, molybdenum, lead, zinc and manganese. The proven offshore oil reserves are 300 million tons, the natural gas reserves are 13.5 billion cubic meters, the purple sand reserves are 110 million tons and bentonite reserves are 50 million tons. The offshore water surface is 5 million mu, coastal beach is 21 million mu, with an annual output of 2 million tons of seafood, shrimp, sea crab, pencil razor clam, jellyfish skin, turbot fish and other seafood that are sold at home and abroad. The cultivated land area is 33.95 million mu and the grain output in normal years is stable at about 1 million tons, the output of vegetables is 4.2 million tons, the output of fruits is 1 million tons. Suizhong white pear, Xingcheng apple and Nanpiao date are well-known in China.
Huludao is full of vitality and has great potential. Huludao has 13 thematic concept parks with a total planning area of 545 square kilometers, accounting for one-twentieth of the total land area of the city. The development plan of the three industries in the park is clear, the basic supporting conditions are perfect and the development momentum is strong. The e-commerce of the city is booming. There are more than 7500 online shops. It is the first city in Northeast China to explore the mode of “Internet + foreign trade”, the first pilot city for e-commerce export of swimsuit cross-border trade in China and the only CIS Customs Union cross-border e-commerce integrated service center is located in Huludao.
